Open To All Adults

Understand the nuances of digital mapping and navigation skills in avalanche terrain with Backcountry Nav founder Dave Mathes, an avid ski mountaineer, mountain biker, mountain athlete, and former Air Force Pararescueman and medic based in the Tetons.

This 2-hour scenario-based course will prepare you to:

  • Use apps like Gaia GPS and FatMap to route plan while prioritizing risk management and your adventure objectives in avalanche terrain

  • Leverage the BTAC forecast as you build out your route

  • Practice developing a plan from start to finish in a small group and then debrief your successes and challenges

Please come prepared with your charged phone and a notebook/writing utensil to ensure you are able to practice your skills with the group.
